What To Expect from your session with me | Melbourne Newborn Photographer

What to expect during your newborn photography session.

Welcoming a new baby is… a lot.

Beautiful. Overwhelming. Sleep-deprived. Love-drunk. All of it.

Which is exactly why my approach to newborn photography is designed to feel like a deep breath in - slow, gentle, and fully centred around you and your little one.

Here’s a peek at what you can expect from your newborn session with me, from start to finish.

Once your session is booked in (usually scheduled for when bub is around 1–2 weeks old), I’ll send through a simple pre-session guide that covers everything you need to know, like what to wear, how to prepare, and what to bring (spoiler: not much).

You’ll have access to my thoughtfully curated client wardrobe for mamas, filled with soft, timeless pieces that photograph beautifully and feel effortless to wear - you’ve already got enough to think about, so lets take one thing off your plate!

Your session will take place at my beautiful natural light studio in Whittlesea, in Melbourne’s North-East. A calm, cosy space designed to feel like a soft landing. Think warm sunlight through sheer curtains, natural textures, a calm, open space for you to simply settle in and be.

Once you’ve arrived, there’s absolutely no rush. Feed bub, have a cup of tea, take a breath. We’ll move at a pace that suits your little one and your family.

During the session your baby leads the way. Whether they snooze soundly throughout, are wide awake with serious FOMO, or are somewhere in between, we’ll flow with it. Between my own studio and my previous jobs I’ve worked with hundreds of babies over the years, and I promise you that I’ve seen it all.

Nappy change or blowout? Feeding break? Bub just wants mum cuddles? Totally fine! We pause and go with it. There’s zero pressure for anything to go ‘perfectly’ because honestly, the magic usually lives in the in-between moments.

And what about the "What if my toddler doesn't behave?" panic. I hear this all the time, and I promise you it’s totally normal to worry, but it’s absolutely nothing to stress about. I’ve worked with so many families with young children, and here’s what I know to be true - toddlers are going to toddler! And that’s completely okay.

Your little one doesn’t need to sit still or smile perfectly. I’ll gently guide things in a way that feels playful and pressure-free. Think games, snuggles, and genuine connection rather than stiff poses or forced smiles. To be completely honest, I prefer to make a game out of it as the most beautiful images come from letting them be exactly who they are! We all know you can’t simply tell a toddler to sit and say cheese (unless you want that ‘just seen a ghost toddler grin’). No thanks, we want the real and emotive moments - “Do you think you can snuggle in and see if your sister’s cheeks are as soft as marshmallows?” - that’s the real magic.

I’ll gently guide you through simple, natural poses that focus on connection, not performance. You don’t need to know what to do, that’s my job.

And if they need a break? We take one. There’s time. There’s space. This session is designed with your whole family in mind. Big feelings, snack breaks…it’s all okay with me.

One of the things I hear most from parents after a session is, “That was so much more relaxing than I expected.”

And that’s exactly the goal! My biggest strive is for you to leave your session feeling completely relaxed and content. My studio space has been intentionally created to feel calm, warm and welcoming, with little comforts tucked in to make sure you feel taken care of too. Think of it as your little postpartum sanctuary for the morning.

Once we’ve wrapped up your session, within 1–2 weeks you’ll receive a private online selections gallery to view and choose your favourites. From there I’ll carefully hand-edit your images in my signature soft, emotive style. If you’ve selected an album or print products, I’ll get those beautiful keepsakes underway - ready to be held, gifted, and passed down. These aren’t just photos for your phone, they’re tangible reminders of this season, made to last. (And yes, I’ll usually share a few sneak peeks on Instagram during this time because I know the wait is torture!)

The newborn season is so fleeting. The way they curl into you. The teeny tiny toes. Their hilarious balding little old man hair styles. The sweet milky breath (I was wildly obsessed with my son’s milky breath!…anyone else, or was that just me?)

Whether you’re sleep-deprived or soaking it all in, I’m here to help you remember just how much love lived in these early days.

When you’ve blinked and your little one is suddenly a toddler raiding every cupboard and launching off the couch sumo-style, trust me, you’ll come back to these photos time and time again. My greatest hope when you look at them is that all the feelings, all the emotions, all the magic comes rushing back to you as well.

If you’d love to book your newborn photography session with me or have any questions, you can reach out to me here

I’d be so honoured to document your family’s story.

The heart behind TCP

Strawberry matcha addict | Reality TV tragic | Mama

I like to say that photography is in my bones. It resonates so deeply and instinctually with me that I feel like it has been tied to my identity for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my beautiful Mum captured everything - every big moment, every small moment, every milestone, every holiday, birthday, school event, even the boring, ordinary moments that, I’ll be honest, probably didn’t need to be captured. But she got it all, with over 100 real, beautiful, actual photo albums to show for it. She injected this same need to capture it all into me, probably without even realising it.
So that was me - the friend in high school who was always the first to whip out the phone for the 10th selfie, the sister who won’t let you eat your meal until I’d snapped a pic for the gram first, the wife who instinctively pulls out the camera any time my husband, son or dog are doing something cute (which to my husbands annoyance is…highly frequently). I’m the one who takes photos like it’s second nature, from the mundane - my morning coffee steaming in the sunlight on the kitchen bench, to the important - the details of my son every month for the first year of his life. Photography is my life and the photos bring me so much joy that it was only natural that I craved being able to do this for other families too.

My work is for families who want more than just a photo. For those not looking for stiff poses but rather something that makes them feel. For those who want imagery that is heartfelt, calm, and personal - the kind that will make you look back and breathe in the flood of emotion framed in that image, even a decade from now.

With over 10 years in the industry, 7 of those focusing on newborns, I’ve learned that the magic lives in the unscripted - the little hand squeezes, the tiny toe kisses, the way your baby fits in your arms right now. My sessions are relaxed and gently guided, always with a focus on connection over perfection, and the kind of beauty that unfolds naturally. In my studio, you're given space to just be.

In the beautiful suburb of Whittlesea, my studio sits just steps from home. A once-empty shed lovingly transformed by my husband into the soft, light-filled space it is today. And let me tell you, I didn’t make it easy for him, asking for a pitched ceiling and the windows to be placed just so, every request or change he obliged me. (Thank you my love, my studio is a love letter I cherish more deeply than you might realise). My space is something I am so proud of, a dream of 10+ years having come to fruition. It’s calm, warm, and catches the kind of soft natural light that makes you breathe a little slower, sink in to the moment a little deeper. A sanctuary made for slow moments, gentle connections and love.

Photography should make you feel - honest, heartfelt, connected and true to you.

If you’re the kind of person who tears up over tiny socks, hangs onto handwritten birthday cards, keeps every scribbled drawing and believes that the things worth remembering are found in the small stuff too… well, we’ll get along just fine.

It would be my privilege to have you in front of my lens.

xx, Tiff
